Instructions
1️⃣ Prepare the Base
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish with butter or nonstick spray.
- Place the bread cubes and diced apples in the prepared dish and gently toss to combine.
2️⃣ Make the Custard
- In a medium bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, sugar, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and salt.
- Pour the custard evenly over the bread and apples.
- Press down gently so the bread absorbs the liquid.
3️⃣ Prepare the Crumble Topping (Optional)
- In a small bowl, combine flour, brown sugar, and cinnamon.
- Cut in the cold butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Sprinkle evenly over the bread pudding.
4️⃣ Bake
- Bake uncovered for 45–50 minutes, or until the top is golden and the center is set.
- Remove from the oven and allow to cool slightly before serving.
5️⃣ Serve
- Serve warm as is, or with a drizzle of caramel sauce or a scoop of ice cream for extra indulgence.
Recipe Notes
- Use slightly stale bread for best texture; it absorbs the custard better.
- Firmer apple varieties help maintain pieces in the pudding.
- Make ahead tip: Assemble the pudding the night before, cover, and refrigerate; bake the next day adding 10–15 minutes to the cooking time.
