Instructions:

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

In a medium-sized mixing bowl, combine the flour, baking soda, and salt. Whisk together and set aside.

In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter, white sugar, and brown sugar until smooth and creamy.

Beat in the eggs, one at a time, then add the vanilla extract.

Gradually stir in the flour mixture until well-combined.

Fold in the chocolate chips and chopped walnuts, if using.

Drop the cookie dough by rounded tablespoons onto ungreased baking sheets, spacing them about 2 inches apart.

Bake for 12 to 15 minutes or until golden brown.

Let the cookies cool on the baking sheets for 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
