Pound Cake

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, at room temperature
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup milk

Instructions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9×5 inch loaf pan.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.
  3. In a separate mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture, alternating with the milk and mixing well after each addition.
  4. Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan and smooth out the top.
  5. Bake the cake in the preheated oven for 60-70 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  6. Allow the cake to cool in the pan for 10 minutes before removing it from the pan and transferring it to a wire rack to cool completely.
  7. Serve the cake plain or with your favorite toppings such as powdered sugar, fresh fruit, or a glaze.
