Carne Asada Mexican Street Tacos

Introduction

These Carne Asada Street Tacos are a delicious Mexican favorite. Juicy, seasoned beef is cooked with fresh peppers, tomatoes, and onions, then served in soft corn tortillas topped with cilantro and onions. Perfect for weeknight dinners, family meals, or casual gatherings.

Ingredients

Beef & Marinade

  • 2 lbs carne asada* (thinly sliced beef steak)
  • 1 tablespoon cumin
  • 1 tablespoon kosher salt
  • 2 teaspoons garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon cracked black pepper
  • 3 tablespoons canola oil
  • 1 serrano pepper, sliced
  • ½ roma tomato, diced
  • ½ white onion, finely diced

Tacos

  • 32 street taco corn tortillas
  • ½ cup white onion, diced (for garnish)
  • ½ cup cilantro, roughly chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

1. Season the Beef

Mix cumin, salt, garlic powder, and cracked black pepper. Coat the carne asada evenly. Slice into strips, then dice into bite-sized pieces.

2. Marinate

In a covered bowl, combine the seasoned beef with serrano pepper, tomato, and onion. Let marinate for 15–60 minutes to allow flavors to develop.

3. Cook the Beef

Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat with canola oil. Add the marinated mixture and cook, stirring occasionally, until beef is fully cooked, about 20 minutes.

4. Assemble the Tacos

Warm the corn tortillas. Spoon the cooked beef mixture into each tortilla. Top with diced onions and cilantro.

5. Serve

Serve immediately for a fresh, flavorful taco meal.

Tips

  • Use fresh, high-quality beef for best flavor.
  • Lightly warm corn tortillas for softness.
  • Adjust serrano pepper to your preferred spice level.
  • Can be made ahead for easy taco nights.
