Buttermilk Bar Doughnut Recipe | Norine’s Nest

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups of all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup of granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon of baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon of baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon of salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon of nutmeg
  • 1/2 cup of buttermilk
  • 1 egg
  • 2 tablespoons of melted butter
  • 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
  • Vegetable oil for frying
  • Powdered sugar for dusting (optional)

Instructions:

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and nutmeg.
  2. In a separate bowl, whisk together the buttermilk, egg, melted butter, and vanilla extract.
  3. Slowly add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and mix until a dough forms.
  4. Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and knead for 2-3 minutes.
  5. Roll the dough out to 1/2 inch thickness.
  6. Use a doughnut cutter or a round cookie cutter and a smaller round cookie cutter to cut out the doughnuts.
  7. Heat the vegetable oil in a deep fryer or a large pot to 350°F.
  8. Carefully add the doughnuts to the hot oil and fry for 2-3 minutes on each side, or until golden brown.
  9. Use a slotted spoon to remove the doughnuts from the oil and drain on paper towels.
  10. Dust with powdered sugar before serving, if desired.
